Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently unveiled a series of development projects totaling Rs 15,000 crore during a public meeting in Krishnanagar, Nadia district. He emphasized the significance of these projects in powering the progress of West Bengal and creating employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
Key projects included the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station Phase II (2×660 MW) in Purulia district, which is expected to attract investments exceeding Rs 11,000 crore. Additionally, the inauguration of the flue gas desulfurisation (FGD) system of Unit 7 & 8 at Mejia Thermal Power Station showcases India’s commitment to addressing environmental concerns, with an investment of approximately Rs 650 crore.
In the transportation sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated a crucial road project involving the four-laning of the Farakka-Raiganj Section of NH-12. Furthermore, he dedicated four rail projects totaling over Rs 940 crore, reflecting the government’s dedication to enhancing connectivity and infrastructure in West Bengal.
Modi stressed the importance of electricity for overall development and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making West Bengal self-sufficient in meeting its energy needs. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize various aspects of infrastructure, including roadways, railways, airways, and waterways, aiming to strengthen connectivity and facilitate economic growth in the region, which serves as a vital gateway for the eastern states.
