Modi Blasts Bengal Govt: Shocking Corruption Revealed in AIIMS Denial
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently criticized the West Bengal government’s handling of the establishment of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kalyani. Modi highlighted the benefits AIIMS Kalyani would offer, such as improved healthcare facilities and job opportunities. He alleged that the state government’s refusal to grant environmental clearance for the project was indicative of corruption within the ruling Trinamul Congress (TMC) party.
Modi suggested that the denial of permission for AIIMS Kalyani was part of what he called the TMC’s “politics of extortion,” insinuating that personal gain took precedence over public welfare. He criticized the government’s actions, contrasting its reluctance to approve AIIMS with its alleged tolerance of corruption and criminal activities.
In response, a state health department official refuted Modi’s claims, stating that the government lacked the authority to waive the penalty imposed by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB). Additionally, a TMC representative emphasized the government’s support for AIIMS in Kalyani while expressing concerns about alleged corruption in the recruitment process.
Modi also criticized the TMC on various other fronts, accusing the party of oppression, corruption, and mismanagement of central funds. He highlighted issues such as fake job cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and alleged financial irregularities in welfare schemes.
In response to Modi’s allegations regarding fake job cards, a TMC spokesperson dismissed the claims as unfounded and criticized the central government for withholding funds from beneficiaries in West Bengal.
Overall, Modi’s remarks underscore ongoing political tensions between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by him and the TMC-led government in West Bengal, particularly concerning governance, development projects, and allegations of corruption.
