Breaking News: Shocking Updates to Australian Visa English Requirements Unveiled! Find Out What You Need to Know Now

The Australian Government has implemented new English language requirements for Student and Temporary Graduate visas, effective from March 23, 2024. These updates were announced in December 2023 as part of the Migration Strategy.

For Temporary Graduate visas (TGV):

• The minimum IELTS score requirement has been raised from 6.0 to 6.5.
• Each section of the test (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) must achieve a minimum score of 5.5.
• The validity period for the English test has been shortened from 3 years to 1 year. Applicants must demonstrate that they completed the English Language test within 1 year prior to their visa application.

For Student visas:

• The minimum IELTS score requirement has been increased from 5.5 to 6.
• The minimum score required for undertaking a packaged ELICOS course has been raised from 4.5 to 5.0.
• There is no change for students exclusively studying English through ELICOS.
• Students enrolled in university foundation or pathway programs offering reputable English language training must achieve an IELTS score of 5.5.
• Elevated English language standards for students pursuing VET and higher education courses necessitate a corresponding increase in scores for those taking packaged ELICOS courses.
